Wingfield Academy is committed to ensuring that our pupils are fully equipped to thrive in the ever-changing world around them. Our aim is to foster students’ ability to become active members of our community who understand, appreciate and celebrate the diverse society we live in.
Across the curriculum and through our extra curricular offering, we encourage students to discuss and defend points of view across a range of current topical issues. One way that we encourage the development of these skills and attributes is to actively promote the fundamental values of modern-day Britain.
Our PSHE curriculum examines these values explicitly and throughout the academy we foster an appreciation of:
DEMOCRACY
We encourage a system of democracy by voting on current topics in Votes for Schools, ensuring student opinions are heard through student voice activities, allowing students to participate in Future Leaders and Equality and Diversity groups.
THE RULE OF LAW
At Wingfield Academy we have fair and robust rules in place to maintain standards of behaviour and learning throughout the school day, and a clear consequence system for when standards are not met.
INDIVIDUAL LIBERTY
We promote individual liberty every day by allowing students to choose their own paths, selecting their own GCSE options subjects, extra curricular activities and enrichment opportunities, we also encourage students to voice their opinions in school-wide surveys. We recognise and support students in their growth and are vocal when supporting protected characteristics.
MUTUAL RESPECT AND TOLERANCE OF THOSE OF DIFFERENT FAITHS AND BELIEFS
We have a culture of respect and tolerance in the academy which is underpinned by our behaviour policy, encouraging students to show kindness and understanding and learn about difference and diversity across our curriculum.
