I am writing to confirm the Academy’s intention to amend the current uniform policy in readiness for September 2019 (New academic year). The amendment will be that all students are to be required to wear plain black trousers in a tailored style. This means the option of wearing a skirt will no longer be available to students.
Modern day learning in a secondary school in 2019 encompasses a multitude of activities for female students and young women both within and external to the school building. Consultation and liaison with the Academy's student body via the School Council has demonstrated that the vast proportion of the female student body feel most appropriate when dressed in trousers. In addition to this, a number of parents / carers have contacted the Academy outlining the difficulties encountered when attempting to source appropriately lengthed and affordable skirts that meet the specific requirements of our strict uniform policy.
The Academy is comfortable in the knowledge that this amendment meets the desired need of the student population.
All our uniform items are available from our uniform provider Pinder’s, near Rotherham Bus Station.
If you have any queries around uniform please do not hesitate to contact the Academy or alternatively check the Academy website for further information on our uniform policy.
Thank you for your continued support of the Academy.
The new academic year 2018-19 commences at Wingfield Academy on Monday 8th July when our timetable for 2019-20 will be introduced to all students.
New Y7 students will join us from their primary school wearing their normal primary school uniform.
Monday 8th July will be a day of change and a fresh start for all; a day when students will meet their tutors; be allocated new teaching groups and meet their subject teachers who will provide them with their targets and new learning challenges for the forthcoming year.
For this reason the start to Monday 8th July will be staggered to ensure all students can be welcomed and settled efficiently:
- New Y7 Students (currently at Primary) will be expected to arrive at the Academy by 8:25am. They will be issued with; their planner and timetable; undertake a full tour of the Academy; learn how the Academy operates on a day-to-day basis and learn what the Academy expects of them.
- The Academy will open to students in years 8, 9, 10 and 11 at 10:15 am. By 10:25am they should be with tutors where they will receive their new timetables. Where older students are accompanying younger siblings in Y7, or where parents wish their child to be in at the normal time for childcare reasons – the Griffin (dining area) will be supervised and made available for their use.
We are looking forward to the new academic year and the opportunity for staff to begin the delivery of new courses, before the summer break. This will provide the opportunity for all students to reflect on their learning and progress of the past year and to set themselves new and ambitious goals for 2019-20.
We very much look forward to welcoming your child to Wingfield Academy and working in true partnership to help your child meet their full potential.
Please note that term ends on Friday 19th July and students will be dismissed from 2.45pm.
If you have any queries regarding the above please do not hesitate to contact the Academy on 01709 513002.
