January Update

Dear Parent/Carer,

I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you a happy belated New Year and thank you for your support in ensuring our young people have returned positive and ready to learn. It has been a real pleasure to look on as your child thrives within this Academy.

Uniform Standards

I would also like to thank you for your support in ensuring that all our young people attend the Academy on time, every day in full uniform. As you are aware, our code consists of:

  • Formal plain black shoes
  • White shirt/blouse tucked in and top button fastened
  • Wingfield Jumper/Cardigan with logo
  • Academy tie
  • Plain black tailored trousers or knee length skirt worn with black tights
  • Black socks/tights
  • Bag that is large enough to take an A4 folder/book

Multi Academy Trust Status

Several months ago we outlined proposals for Wingfield Academy and Winterhill School to form a Multi Academy Trust. Following a period of informal collaboration Governors and Trustees of both schools have agreed to continue to work together informally rather than pursue a formal partnership approved by the Department for Education. This decision will not impact on the future of either school and each school will continue to operate as individual organisations but will work together on identified aspects of teaching and learning to share best practice in order to support all young people achieve their very best.

Independent Learning Task (ILT)

For this academic year we have made several changes to our Extended Learning Policy, notably the change of name from ELT (extended learning task) to ILT (independent learning task). Our aim is to provide clear opportunities for students to develop independent skills to ensure students become responsible and resilient learners.

As a parent/carer you can expect your son/daughter to receive Independent
Learning Tasks on a week by week basis. Full details can be found here.

Adverse Weather

May I take this opportunity to remind you that in the event of school closure or
delayed opening due to adverse weather conditions we will notify parents/carers by the following means:

  • Via text message
  • Website
  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Wingfield Academy App
  • Local radio station

I will endeavour to keep the Academy open every day unless there is a risk to the health and safety of young people.

Year 8 Parents Evening

Thursday 7th February 2019 from 4:30pm – 7:00pm

Note: A PDF copy of the letter sent home can be found here

Dear Parent/carer,

Y8 Parents Evening will take place on Thursday 7th February 2019 from 4:30pm –7:00pm.

Given how crucial your support is we ask that you attend and invite students to
accompany you so that class teachers can fully share how your child is progressing. On the evening you will also be provided with your child’s latest progress update which you can refer to during any conversations with staff.

In addition, you will be given an opportunity to select an appointment, with a member of the Senior Leadership Team, in the next few weeks to discuss your child’s subject choices in Year 9.

If you are unable to attend and you wish to gain any further clarification please
contact your child’s Year Team Leader and/or subject team leaders who will be
happy to help.

Finally we believe that the partnership approach that exists between home and
school remains the key to our team’s success and will ensure the best outcomes for your child.

To confirm your attendance please can you complete the reply slip and return to your child’s Form Tutor by Friday 25th January 2019.

Many thanks for your continued support.

Yours sincerely,

Phil Davis
Headteacher

Arrangements for the End of Term

As we come to the end of another term, I would like to thank you for your continued support. I would also like to take this opportunity of reminding you that the Academy will close for the Christmas break on Thursday 20th December 2018. Students will be dismissed from the Academy at the normal time of 2:45pm. There will be no early closure.

In an attempt to enter into the Christmas spirit and raise funds, we will be holding a ‘Christmas jumper’ and/or ‘Christmas hat’ day on the last day of term. Students will be required to pay £1.00 to allow them to wear a Christmas jumper or hat instead of their usual Academy uniform jumper.

Please note, all other uniform standards will remain in full. The only item of clothing that may be replaced is your child’s Academy jumper. The Academy will not allow fashion jumpers displaying motifs and/or baseball caps.

Students are expected back into the Academy on Monday 7th January 2018 at 8:30am. The Breakfast Club will be running from 8am.

I would like to take this opportunity of wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Yours sincerely

Phil Davis
